Photographer Natalie Newman recently shared videos showing bulldozers clearing land in the iconic Santa Elena Canyon, which drew criticism from public lands advocate Laiken Jordahl for the impact on the park’s natural beauty.

In response to the outcry, CBP officials initially denied the construction plans, only to later admit that groundwork was being laid for new security installations. The agency defended the need for more barriers and roads to combat potential cartel activity.
