Pauline Hanson reveals her opposition to a significant gun buyback program announced by Anthony Albanese and NSW premier, Chris Minns, in Sydney.
Legislation for the plan, a response to the Bondi beach terror attack, has recently passed parliament. The cost of the buyback will be divided equally between the federal and NSW governments, running in two phases.
During the initial phase of the scheme, revolvers will receive $1,000, and semi-automatic handguns will be eligible for $850. Double-barrel shotguns will get a compensation of $850, and single barrel shotguns will receive $650. Rifles will be valued from $650 to $1,000, with air rifles receiving a fixed compensation of $450.
Pauline Hanson expressed her concern to News24, stating that taxpayers should not bear the expenses of the scheme. She highlighted that the buyback scheme would adversely affect «law-abiding Australians, such as farmers in need of their guns to conduct their activities.»
